Flying lessons today.

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” - Joseph Chilton Pearce

Any artist attempting to earn a living from their art knows, first you have to learn to fly without a net.

We have friends who used to jump out of planes, a lot. When I think of them dressing up as Elvis and deciding, “Hey, I’m going to hurl myself into thin air and float down to earth.” I can’t imagine what it must be like. It seems crazy courageous to me. Then I look at how I have lived my life, for most of my life, it must seem crazy to a lot of people too. One day I jumped out of the plane called “security” and decided to free fall into a new life as a musician. There is always the chance that you’re gonna end up splattered on the ground, picking up the pieces of what is left and starting again. I have done this many many times but since the most damage is done to the ego, recovery has an upside. Making mistakes teaches us to attempt things in a new way.

It is true that a creative life can take on many forms. So let go of your fear and enjoy the freedom of flying. You’ll probably want to keep jumping.

Namaste!
